STAFF PICK: VENUE
The museum's permanent collection is considered to be the world's most comprehensive of Dalí's work and provides an excellent overview of Dalí's major themes and symbols. Characterized by diversity, his oil paintings range from the impressionist and cubist styles of his early period to his later, more famous, surrealist canvases. Newly added is Una noche sin fin, a video installation by Barcelona artist Mabel Palacín that's translated as "an endless night," through Jan. 24. Gems is a collection of jewelry, paintings, drawings, glassware and flatware designed by Dali, culled from the museum's vaults and on display through April 18. At 10:15 a.m. on Weds., Dec. 2, Joan Kropf leads the "Coffee with a Curator" discussion, a theme-oriented gallery tour accompanied by complimentary Starbucks coffee. Regular hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mon.-Wed. and Fri.-Sat., 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Thurs., and noon-5:30 p.m. Sun. Admission: $17 adults, $14.50 seniors, $12 students, $4 ages 5-9, free for children under 4 ($5 admission 5-8 p.m. Thursdays).
